“Inslee” is a swear word? Government censors Tim4Gov statement in voters pamphlet
“Inslee” is a swear word? Government censors Tim4Gov statement in voters pamphlet for saying “Jay Inslee.”
BIZARRE: government even bans the word “Seattle.”
It’s a broken system. Help me fix it.
On Tuesday, the Kitsap County Auditor stopped censoring candidate statements and said they’ll be printed as written.
But the same day, I received this email from the Snohomish County Auditor Garth Fell:
Below is the statement you submitted to the State in which we have highlighted the portion that violates our administrative rules. We ask that you prepare a revised statement that modifies this portion so it adheres to our administrative rules.
As Governor, my mission will be to fix Washington’s broken system. I’ll bring my battle-tested experience and proven results reforming government to serve you.
Imagine if Jay Inslee hadn’t betrayed voters by breaking his campaign promises to veto taxes, raising them 30 times instead. Imagine if Inslee hadn’t recklessly shut down thousands of small businesses, forcing a million people out of work, while letting mega-corporations remain open. Inslee’s lockdown spared his allies but punished everyone else. Inslee’s actions always benefit the special interests that bankroll him.
As Governor, I will serve you. I’ll reduce taxes, prioritize spending, grow our economy, guard your individual liberty, and protect your constitutional rights. For 22 years, I’ve fought for you with initiatives that cut taxes, strengthened our communities and made our streets safer. I’ve saved the people of Washington $43 Billion, while Inslee’s 30 tax increases cost citizens $50 Billion. While you can rely on me to cut taxes—because I’ve done it over and over—Inslee admitted he’s exploiting the economic crisis he caused to raise your taxes – he wants carbon taxes, income taxes, and a creepy “Pay-Per-Mile-Tax.” I’ll block all tax increases.
Inslee’s reckless policies created the most homelessness and violent crime in our state’s history. I’ll use common-sense strategies to get the homeless off the streets.
Inslee got away with taking $5 million from taxpayers for his campaign. His cronies in Seattle tried overturning your vote for $30 Tabs, saying you were “confused.” Under Inslee, this broken system no longer serves the people. Washington has a Seattle Legislature, Seattle Supreme Court and a Seattle Governor. Enough! It’s time at least one branch of government represents the rest of us.
Inslee betrayed you. Trust me with your vote and I promise I will fight for you.
Please submit a revised statement to Garth.Fell@snoco.org by Thursday, June 18. If you do not submit a revised statement that meets our local administrative rules by the deadline, your entire statement will not appear in the printed local voters’ pamphlet and the “No statement submitted” will appear in its place.
Help me stop government censorship. Please send an email RIGHT NOW and DEMAND he print the candidates’ statements as written. Mine was already OK’d by the Secretary of State and no other county, including Kitsap, is censoring statements — only Garth Fell is saying he’ll censor.
In the Subject line, cut and paste this: GARTH, STOP YOUR GOVERNMENT CENSORSHIP — print the candidates’ statements as written
In the body of the email, cut and paste this — or write something yourself — tell him how you feel:
“Garth, you are engaging in blatant censorship and infringing on core political speech. ‘Inslee’ is not a swear word. “Seattle” isn’t profanity. The voters of Snohomish County are paying for the voters pamphlet and deserve to read in it the complete, unaltered statements of the candidates who are running for office (especially since the Secretary of State has already OK’d them and since ALL other counties, including recently Kitsap County, are not engaging in censorship, relying instead on state law to govern the printing of statewide candidate statements). Censoring candidates violates their First Amendment rights but even worse, it violates the right of Snohomish County voters to hear from the people they are voting for. Forcing a candidate to change his/her statement to make it acceptable to the government is antithetical to free speech (you censored more than half of Mr. Eyman’s statement!). And you said the penalty for non-compliance with the government is this: “‘No statement submitted’ will appear in its place.” But that’s a lie — Mr. Eyman did submit one. I demand that you and your office not engage in government censorship and to instead print the candidates’ statements as written. Doing so will avoid costly litigation that will only succeed in delaying the printing and distributing of our voters pamphlet. Voters will be furious with you if you don’t print their complete statements — we believe in free speech and if you don’t support free speech and engage in government censorship then you will not be the Auditor for much longer. Please acknowledge receipt of my email and confirm you will be abiding by my demand.”
Garth Fell, Snohomish County Auditor, 425-388-3444
